Where Grace and Experience Abound

When deciding to use your insurance for payment, there are a few items you need to be aware of.. We have found the following issues clients need to explore.
- When insurance is used, there must be a diagnosis that the insurance company believes warrants therapy. You should be aware of what a diagnosis may do to your insurance premiums. You should also understand that for some seeking care, the client’s concerns may not meet criteria for a diagnosis.
- The client needs to contact their insurance company to determine coverage and requirements. There is a number on the back of your card for you to call to do this. We require the client to complete the insurance verification form before counseling begins if insurance is to be used (see form link below). You will usually need pre-authorization from your insurance company and a referral from your primary care physician. There is usually a requirement for us to communicate with your primary care physician during the course of therapy.
- Understand that the use of insurance, at times, places the therapist between the client and the insurance company or the insurance company between the client and the therapist. When insurance issues come up, the client must be able to negotiate the issue while continuing therapy.
- The use of insurance can be an answer to get the help needed. There is a reason to have insurance - to help pay for issues that keep you from functioning.
