How the session will proceed.
The counselor will discuss the confidential and informed consent issues that pertain to the creation of a therapist/client relationship. A general wellbeing assessment will take place. Question like sleep patterns and eating patterns will be included.
Since the counseling process is a process of change, our next question will be, “how would you like things to be different?” The remainder of the session will establish a connection between you and the therapist. You will learn how we work and if you will feel comfortable working with us. We will also get a good idea of what you want to accomplish in the sessions. Improving your quality of life is the ultimate aim. There are several concepts that help improve quality of life such as shelter, safety, nutrition, helpful relationships, and appropriate service.
We inform you as to how and what we do before we do it. Our goal is to make the process of change as doable and safe as possible for you. While we are in no manner perfect humans, our goal is supported with the idea that we are here for you and your needs. At times, your needs may be confused with self harming wants. It is at these times where we assist you in defining wants that may be hurting you and the underlying need that has not been met. This can be an uncomfortable process, but one that is doable.
